International Conference on “Social Entrepreneurship and Social Responsibilities: A Sustainable Approach to Economic Growth”

Venue: VES Institute of Management

Date: 10th – 11th Feb, 2017.

Entrepreneurs play a very important role in creating the much-needed job opportunities for a country. Instilling confidence in budding entrepreneurs, providing them with a conducive and friendly investment climate would result in fostering a robust entrepreneurial culture, in the long run. Social entrepreneurship has gained substantial importance recently. This is the result of well-known initiatives such as, for example, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Schwab Foundation (giving platform to the leading 260 social entrepreneurs on the World Economic Forum). But most importantly, social entrepreneurship is appealing with its attention to social and environmental issues. Profit generation is not their main focus, the resolution of sustainability challenges are. And social entrepreneurs approach these challenges as if they were business opportunities.

A Social Entrepreneur has to consider three things in the process of social innovation:

  1. See the bigger social and economic systems in which companies operate;
  2. Cooperate with the internal and external environment of the organization, or to collaborate across boundaries
  3. Focus on the most relevant and most crucial aspects

Understanding this, Center for Entrepreneurship Development at VES Institute of Management in association with Indus Business Academy (IBA) Bangalore, is organizing the second International Conference on “Social Entrepreneurship and Social Responsibility: A Sustainable Approach to Economic Growth” (IC-17 VESIM) ON 10th – 11th February 2017 in Mumbai, India.

The conference will focus on Social enterprise back to the basic, Indian way of business, Gandhian thoughts on business and innovative areas of social entrepreneurship, including social venture capital, international entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial culture, SME development, technological entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education and sustainable development and many others.

This conference intends to bring together researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners and experts from all over the world to present their studies and practices in the field of Social Entrepreneurship. Hopefully, this association shall trigger some new insights and ideas in these areas of research and indicate ways to cope with existing and future challenges.
