Evaluation Criteia

Written submission (Total weightage- 25 %)

1. Choice of the topic - 20%

• The more relevant and appropriate the topic is greater the marks
• How contemporary is the topic c. Is the topic abstract or hypothetical or is it based on reality?

2. Identification of economic concept- 20%

• What economic concept best explains the topic one has chosen?
• How one has handled the alternative explanations for the topic?
• Has the author understood the economic concept being discussed in the context of the topic chosen?

3. Justice to the theme: - 20%

• Is the topic relevant to the theme?
• Has the submission captured what is expected of the presenter or is it tangential to the theme?

4. Articulation in a style understandable to laymen- 30%

• Is the submission heavy on jargons?
• Has the author conveyed his/her understanding of the theme?
• Is the submission able to capture the explanation that can be grasped by non-specialists?
• Is the writing/presentation too heavy on the language?
• Is there an attempt to bring lucidity in the expression?

5. Adherence to word limit: 10%

• Does the submission adhere to the word limit or does it exceed the word limit?

Presentation before the Jury (weightage- 75%)

Conception and Content: 35%

• • 1. Did the presentation help the audience comprehend the research?
  • Was the problem articulated well?
  • Did it contain any jargons
  • that might not have been understood by the audience
  • Did the presentation found receptivity with the audience?
  • 2. Was the research topic and its import communicated using language apt to an educated, but non-specialist listeners?
  • Did the speaker avoid economics jargon, explain terminology and provide adequate background information to illustrate points?
  • Was the presentation something very technical or did it clearly convey a non-specialist audience a good grasp of the research?
  • Were the presenters clear about their objectives in reference to communicating the same to the audience?
  • Content and significance to the theme
  • Did the presenters understand the theme?

Engagement and Communication: 35%

• Was the presentation well-paced? Did the presenter devote sufficient time on each component of their presentation, or did they show certain haste in rushing through the components?
  • Did the presenters appear to be in control of their thought process?
  • Did the presenters appear to be in control of the flow of the presentation?
• Did the presentation make the audience more curious about the research, a quest to probe more?
  • Did they present in a manner which made the audience more interested in the topic?
  • Was their research merely confined to the competition or was it intended to generate certain interest in the listeners to engage in greater research
  • Did the presentation had sufficient leads to increase the conversation around the topic
• Did the speaker possess necessary stage presence, eye contact and vocal range; maintain a balanced pace, and have a self-assured posture?
  • Did they betray the signs of nerves
• Did the presenter capture and sustain the attention of the audience?
  • How far the audience seemed to be interested in the presentation
  • How far they were able to command the attention span
  • Was it filled with anecdotes etc or was it too jargon heavy
• Did the speaker's slide enrich the presentation - was it flawless, intelligible, and succinct? a. Did the presentation do justice to the topic?
  • Did the presentation ensure the objectives were met within the timeline

Question and Answer: 30%

1. Choice of the topic - 20%

• Did the presenters respond to the questions?
• Did the presenters do their homework in preparing answers to possible questions
• Did the presenters do their homework in acceptance or rejection of alternative explanations suggested
• Were the answers to the questions advanced their propositions in the presentation?
• Were the answers deviant from their propositions in the presentation?
• Were the answers demonstrate their depth of understanding the subject
• Did the presenters merely present for the sake of participation?
• Did the presenters demonstrate their ability to withstand nerves during the Q&A session
