An Introduction to Digital Currency

Indus Business Academy hosted a guest lecture titled “Decoding Crypto: An Introduction to Digital Currency” for the batch of 2024-26, featuring Mr. Karthikeyan NG and Mr. Divesh Sanchyeti, co-founders of Pi42, India’s first crypto-INR perpetual future exchange. The session provided a comprehensive introduction to cryptocurrencies, covering both technical and financial aspects.

Mr. Karthikeyan explained blockchain technology as the foundation of decentralized finance (DeFi), explaining how it shifts control from traditional banking systems to individuals. He also discussed the role of miners in verifying transactions and securing the network, highlighting Bitcoin’s history, including the famous Bitcoin Pizza Day. Mr. Divesh elaborated on cryptocurrency trading, focusing on spot and futures trading, and emphasized how pi42’s platform enables crypto-INR perpetual futures exchanges. He highlighted the risks and rewards associated with futures trading. Additionally, the importance of understanding taxation and starting cautiously in the volatile crypto market was stressed. The session concluded with a preview of the pi42 app, showcasing its tools for market analysis and risk management and also it offered  well-rounded view of cryptocurrency, helping students grasp both the opportunities and risks in this evolving financial landscape.
