Guest Lecture by Dr. Sumitra
During a guest lecture by Dr. Sumitra on April 10th, 2024, the decision to pursue the banking and finance industry stemmed from a blend of factors. It was driven by a desire for financial acumen and the evolving landscape post-Covid, where digitization and customer-centricity are paramount. Interning within this industry facilitated knowledge building and networking on platforms like LinkedIn. Recognizing the industry’s current reforms towards digitization, adaptation and contribution became primary goals.
Skills such as effective communication, resilience, and understanding customer needs were identified as vital aspirations. To navigate away from sales and marketing roles, a plan to pursue a credit analyst certification from the London School of Banking was formulated. Specializing in credit and risk domains aimed to bolster expertise for long-term career sustainability amidst challenges like NPAs and evolving regulatory frameworks.
Furthermore, certifications like Rush Mana and ESG FRM were highlighted as aligning with industry expectations, enhancing credibility and marketability. The ultimate goal was to carve a niche, establishing oneself as a specialist in a particular sector, thus ensuring enduring relevance and success in the dynamic banking and finance realm.
