New Year 2020
NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION
Date: 31st December 2019
New Year’s Eve is celebrated on the last day of a calendar year, after which a new calendar year begins and the calendar year’s count increases by one. Many cultures celebrate the event in the same manner, and the 1st day of January is often marked as a holiday. In the Gregorian calendar (the most widely used calendar system nowadays), New Year starts from January 1 (New Year’s Day). This was also the first day of the year in the original Julian calendar and the Roman calendar. During the Middle Ages in western Europe, while the Julian calendar was still in use, authorities moved New Year’s Day, depending upon locale, to one of several other days, including March 1, March 25, Easter, September 1, and December 25. Beginning in 1582, the adoption of the Gregorian calendar has meant that many national or local dates in the Western World and beyond have changed to using one fixed date for New Year’s Day, January 1. Other cultures observe their traditional or religious New Year’s Day according to their customs, sometimes in addition to a (Gregorian) civil calendar. Chinese New Year, the Islamic New Year, the traditional Japanese New Year, and the Jewish New Year are the more well-known examples. India and other countries continue to celebrate New Year on different dates.
On the night of 31st of Dec 2019, the celebration started by inviting all the members of faculty, non-academic staff, and all the workers to the celebration of the New Year Party by 9 pm at the convocation ground. The food provided in the mess on this night was a special menu which was delicious and enjoyed by every student. After dinner, all were called to convocation ground for the celebration of New Year Eve by organising a masque party in which everyone was allowed to wear a mask and come to the party. As the party went on paper dance was organised for the 1921 batch in which the 1820 batch were also allowed to participate on the dance floor, which was a great entertainer for all. After completion of the paper dance the DJ started, which made the party more energetic. As the time came to say goodbye to 2019 and welcoming 2020 with cutting the cake, both the batches were full of excitement and enthusiasm. The New Year was welcomed with overwhelming joy with everyone wishing each other after the cake cutting and distribution of the same along with samosas, chips, etc.
In the end, everybody enjoyed this joyful eve with the smile on the faces, and the program ended by 02.00 AM, after which the students proceeded to their respective hostels.
