Blood cancer Awareness
On December 3rd, the DKMS BMST Foundation India, conducted a Blood Cancer Awareness Programme at the Indus Business Academy to raise awareness about blood cancer and its impact. The session provided valuable insights into the symptoms, types of blood cancers, and the critical importance of timely diagnosis and treatment.
The programme aimed to inspire individuals to contribute towards saving lives by becoming potential stem cell donors. The representatives from DKMS elaborated on the life-saving impact of stem cell transplants for blood cancer patients. They encouraged the students to step forward as donors, emphasizing how one person’s decision to donate can give someone battling blood cancer a second chance at life.
To facilitate this process, DKMS collected cheek swab samples from interested participants. This simple and non-invasive procedure helps identify potential donors who could be a match for patients in need of stem cell transplants. The session also provided clarity on the process of stem cell donation, addressing common misconceptions and concerns.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the IBA community, with more than 60 registrations as potential donors. This significant turnout showcased the enthusiasm and commitment to contributing to a noble cause.
The programme not only educated attendees about blood cancer but also fostered a sense of responsibility and compassion among the participants. It served as a reminder that small acts of kindness, like registering as a donor, can make a life-saving difference for someone in need.
The DKMS Foundation’s initiative at IBA was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and encouraging them to take meaningful steps towards creating a healthier, more empathetic society.
