Christmas 2019
Date: 25th December 2019
Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed every year on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. The name ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for the people and then came back to life. The ‘Christ-Mass’ service was the only one that was allowed to take place after sunset (and before sunrise the next day), so people had it at Midnight! Thus we get the name Christ-Mass, shortened to Christmas. Christmas is now celebrated by people around the world, whether they are Christians or not. It’s a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. People, and especially children, also like Christmas as it’s a time when you give and receive presents.
Christmas Celebration at IBA
On 24th of Dec 2019, the celebration started by inviting all the members of faculty, non-academic staff, and all the workers to the celebration of Christmas on the 25th of Dec, at 10 pm near the grocery. On Christmas Eve on 24th, December 2019 around 250 students from both batches in 4 buses were taken to MG road, Bangalore. There, at the St. Patrick’s Church, St. Mark Cathedral Church, as well as Holy Trinity Church, the students prayed for the blessings of the almighty.
The YMCC applicants had made the confession boxes that were kept in front of Santripti (mess) and near grocery since the 21st of Dec in which anyone can write confessions and put it in the box. Also, the applicants started decoration work focusing on the traditional colours of Christmas decorations, which are red, green, and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Jesus, which was shed during his crucifixion, while green symbolizes eternal life, and in particular, the evergreen tree, which does not lose its leaves in the winter, and gold is the first colour associated with Christmas, as one of the three gifts of the Magi, symbolizing royalty. From 23rd until 25th of Dec, all the applicants decorated the college with many things like Santa Claus, snowman, balloons, lighting, stars, Christmas tree, etc. The main thing that applicants did was, they made the crib wherein they showed the birth scene of Jesus Christ. On the 25th evening, a group of people sang the carols like “Long time ago in Bethlehem,” “Mary did you know” and “Jingle Bell,” where all the students enjoyed a lot and sang along as well. Also, from the junior batch, there was a student Harsh Aggarwal who was modelled as Santa Claus completely in the traditional getup and was distributing chocolates to all the students and members of faculty.
At night we had the cake cutting with Bhavya ma’am and students and the cake was further distributed to all the people present. Then we had a bonfire just in front of the Santripti (mess) where all the students gathered for the opening of the confession box, after which confessions were read by the YMCC members.
In the end, everybody enjoyed this joyful festival with a smile on the faces, and the program ended by 11.45 PM, after which the students proceeded to their respective hostels.
