Durga Puja & Dussehra 2019
Durga Puja & Dussehra 2019
Date: 4th – 8th Oct. 2019
India is a land of cultures and diversity. A land where people from different castes and cultures unite together and celebrate every festival with joy and happiness. Several festivals are celebrated in India and Durga Puja is one such prominent annual Hindu festival which reveres and pays homage to the Hindu Goddess, Durga.
The festival is observed in September/October and is a 10-day festival. As per mythology, the festival marks the victory of goddess Durga in her battle against the shape-shifting Asura, Mahishasura. Thus the festival epitomises the victory of good over evil.
In Indus Business Academy, YMCC plays an important role in organizing different events and festivals and celebrating them. This year too, YMCC organized Durga Puja and welcomed Goddess Durga in the campus on the 6th day of Puja, also called Shashthi. On the evening of the 6th day, the idol was established near Santripti Mess in its pandal. That day onwards, everyday morning and evening Aarti was carried out until the 10th day, also called Dashami.
On the ninth day, called Navami and then on Dashami, delicious Bengali food was served in dinner to both students and staff to mark the holy festival. Never to be short on fun, Dandiya night was organized on Navami, and even as rain gods decided to interrupt, and play spoilsport, YMCC did a commendable job in reorganizing the event on Dashami, albeit, this time in the Santripti Mess, much to the happiness and joy of students.
On the day of idol immersion, rain gods again decided to interrupt proceedings. But it could not stop the students from enjoying Sindhoor Khel. And just as the time neared to say goodbye to Goddess Durga, the immersion of idol took place. To mark the end of evil, the effigy of Raavan was also burnt on Dashami.
Even as the Puja has ended, the vibes have not. Such is the way of celebrating festivals, here at Indus Business Academy.
