HEF-IBA Conference
Theme: Management and Leadership in Disruptive Times
Date: December 7, 2018, at IBA, Bengaluru
Venue: Indus Business Academy, Bangalore
Overview
Current times are disruptive in terms both theories & paradigms as well as practical applications. Supersonic speed of technology is adding to the velocity of the process of disruption. What was relevant yesterday is definitely not applicable today; but no one knows what will be relevant tomorrow. Building the narrative for future is extremely difficult. In this context of volatile and unpredictable environment, the higher educational Institutions (HEIs) are facing tremendous challenges. Since the skills and competencies of tomorrow are totally unpredictable, educational institutions are fast losing their relevance in terms of being contemporary and relevant. No doubt, the educational institutions are expected to create men and women with character; but they are also equally vested with the responsibility of creating men and women who can shoulder responsibilities of this unpredictable world in whatever positions they are in. This was the background for the conference theme “Management and Leadership in Disruptive Times”. The conference was an attempt to look into specifically the role of the higher educational institutions to create the leaders and managers who would be able to shoulder responsibilities in these disruptive times. It also discussed various strategies and processes the HEIs should adopt to remain relevant in this fast changing world.
Dr. Subhash Sharma welcomed the gathering with Moon Ocean Strategy proposal and how it will go beyond the Red & Blue ocean strategies in managing disruption & crises. Dr. A K Sengupta, who is the Founder & Convener of the HEF, gave an overview of the functioning of HEF and spoke about the conference theme with the example of “Theory of Power of Now” which is to live in the present to the best of one’s capabilities.
