Onam 2022
Festivals are an integral part of India’s rich cultural heritage and Onam is one of the most awaited events of the year for Keralite. Onam is a traditional festival celebrated by the people of Kerala. It is a harvest festival that falls in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August-September) and is celebrated over a period of 10 days. We celebrate the festival to welcome the mythical King Mahabali. It is believed that his spirit visits the state in the duration of Onam.
IBA is a home for all people across India who take immense pride to celebrate their own culture, tradition, heritage here. In IBA, the Onam celebrations were conducted by YMCC on 8th of September, 2022 with great enthusiasm and zeal. All the volunteers of YMCC as well as the students of IBA came together and worked hard on the eve of Onam to decorate the college.
The college was decorated with flowers and flower rangolis were made in the traditional style to welcome the festival. The traditional attire, Sarees and dhotis were worn by the faculties and students in IBA on Onam day. Everyone cherished the day by taking selfies with others followed by a grand feast called “Sadhya”. People got together and enjoyed flavourful delicacies served on banana leaves along with a cup of Payasam (kheer) during Onam. Attending Onam Sadhya enabled us to experience the culture of the state through its food. The students and staff members enjoyed the Sadhya (traditional meal) together and it was a wonderful experience.
In IBA, the Tug of War competition was one of the main events of the Onam celebrations which had taken the celebration to the next level. The competition was intense and exciting. The students cheered and encouraged their respective teams as they battled it out on the field. Tug of War is not just a sport, it brings people together and fosters a spirit of healthy competition.
The Onam celebrations in our college were a grand success. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to experience and appreciate the culture and traditions of Kerala. Onam is a festival of togetherness which is beyond any religion and age. Amidst cheers of happiness and excitement, everyone learnt the importance of these very special day and imbibed in them pride, cultural oneness and a sense of belonging that we are one big family.
