Ganesh Chaturthi 2019
Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations
Date: 2nd Sept. 2019 to 8th Sept. 2019
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi, is one of the important Hindu festivals celebrated throughout India with great devotion. This day is celebrated, as the birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Lord Ganesh is the symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
The festival, popularly known as ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ falls in August or September of the Gregorian calendar. The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesh clay idols privately in homes, or publicly on elaborate pandals (temporary stages). Observations include chanting of Vedic hymns and Hindu texts such as prayers and brata (fasting). As per Hindu Mythology Lord Ganesh is considered as “Vighna Harta” (one who removes obstacles) and “Buddhi Pradaayaka” (one who grants intelligence). This festival is very important for students as they worship Lord Ganesh to illuminate their minds.
The Ganesh Chaturthi event celebrated in IBA headed by YMCC committee started on 2nd September. On that day there was a grand puja in the morning at 7:15, which was conducted by the members of YMCC committee with beautiful decoration of the pandal of Lord Ganesh and there was a grand aarti in the evening at 6:45, followed by prasadam at night. On the next day, i.e. on 3rd September, the Ganesh Chaturthi puja and aarti were donw in the morning by 8:00 and then aarti was also done in the evening at 7:00, after aarti, everyone was offered prasadam. Like this way, for the rest of the days, prayers were offered to Lord Ganesh in the morning and evening, which continued till the last day of Ganesh Chaturthi, i.e. 8th September.
On the last day of the Ganesh Chaturthi, which was the most joyful as well, because on this day there was Maha-aarti in the evening at 7.00 and in the night at 9.30 there was Ladoo bidding competition between junior (19-21 batch) and senior (18-20) batch, after which there was Lord Ganesh’s idol Visarjan. Students enjoyed very much as they danced over the tunes of Lord Ganapati songs and played with colours. As the motto behind each festival celebration at IBA is to instil the same enthusiasm which students feel at home during these festivals and don’t miss their home, the aim is quite amicably achieved leading to great memories of their college life.
