Social Theorizing and Management Thinking
Date: Sept. 14, 2012
Time: 10 am to 5 pm
Venue: IBA Bangalore
Our existing theories of life, self, culture, society, nation, business, management and the world are at a cross-roads now. We need radically new ways of thinking and practice. As part of our dialogues in Asian Forum for Social Theory we have been exploring some of these border-crossing and foundational challenges since 2004. In the meantime, two of our co-walkers from this circle have published two works which try to grapple some of the epochal challenges of our times.
In his just published book, New Earth Sastra: Towards Holistic Development and Management, Dr. Subhash Sharma presents a new way of thinking about management and economics of our world which takes into consideration the needs of our Mother Earth. He pleads for a new sacro-civic society and harmonic globalization. This resonates with the concept of Biohappiness recently presented by Dr. M.S. Swaminathan in his book, In Search of Biohappiness. This also resonates with the concept of Planetary Realization offered by Dr. Ananta Kumar Giri in his book Knowledge and Human Liberation: Towards Planetary Realizations. Planetary Realizations refer to the challenge and process of realizing our potential and aspirations as children of Mother Earth going beyond exclusion of many kinds such as class inequality, nation-state centered rationality and anthropocentrism. In our workshop, we propose to have a dialogue with Dr. Sharma’s book bringing it in conversation with the concepts of Biohappiness and Planetary Realizations.
